The bearing is the great-circle direction to the Kaaba (21.4225° N, 39.8262° E) from the coordinates used, relative to true north. Compass mode reads your phone's magnetometer, which reports magnetic north; the finder corrects it by the local magnetic declination for the Toronto area (about 10.2° W in 2026, NOAA World Magnetic Model). Phone compasses can be pulled off by several degrees near metal, magnets or a car; if the dial drifts, move the phone in a figure-eight to calibrate, and treat the map bearing as the reference.
