Our History

Imam Mahdi Islamic Centre (IMIC) was officially established on 15th of Shaaban in 2004 by a group of Iranian-Canadian Muslims in GTA. In that year, the constitution was written and the first board of directors was formed. Since then, the IMIC board members are elected every other year by the members. IMIC is an independent organization and has no affiliation with any group or government and is run only by its member. Its main goal is to educate and improve the religious knowledge of the community based on Islamic Shia Ithna Ashari fundamentals.

In 2007, IMIC was registered as a charity organization with the Canadian government. Since then, it has been following the Canadian rules, and issuing tax receipts for any financial donations.

The Jaffari-Bayview Mosque was purchased in Nov 2010, and IMIC was moved to the building. Other than the Friday prayers,  IMIC has regular programs for the community every Thursday and Friday nights, as well as a 30 night special program in Ramadhan, and a 15 day program in Muharram each year.

In Sept 2015, the Centre expanded its Saturday Quran classes to full day Saturday school.
